And if you want to show your income, you'll have to create your own paystub.

What Is a Paystub?

A pay stub is part of a paycheck that breaks down an individual's pay. That is, it shows your total earnings for the pay period, deductions, and your net pay.

What is it for? It helps to provide a record of your wages. Not only that, but you might need it as proof of income for an auto loan or a mortgage.

3 Things That You Have to Include On a Paystub

Generally speaking, there are three things that you want to include in a paystub. Here's an overview.

Gross Pay

Gross pay is the amount that you've earned throughout a given pay period before taxes and deductions are taken out. In other words, it will be higher than your net pay.

Assuming that you're self-employed, you'll have to divide your annual pay by the number of times that you're paid.

Deductions

Deductions are anything that are automatically taken away from your gross pay. Take Social Security and taxes, for example, they're both automatically deducted from your income.

Note: Those who are self-employed will have to do the calculations themselves.

Net Pay

The net pay is the total amount that you'll receive after all the deductions. To come up with it, you have to substract the deductions from your gross amount.

For example, if your gross pay is $10,000, you may receive only $8,000 after deductions.

How to Create a Paystub

There are several ways to make your own paystub. For example, you can use a spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel.

Don't want to have to worry about formatting? You can always use an automatic paystub maker instead. One great thing about them is that they typically have a lot of paycheck stub templates to select from.

In other words, all you have to do is input your information.
